Modern societies are rapidly changing with the high technology developments in the areas of precision machines, electronics, aerospace, energy, and environmental engineering. As a basis of these developments, Advanced Materials Science and Engineering (AMSE) is a discipline intended to improve materials properties and develop new innovative materials through the enhancement and functionalization of material properties for such materials as metals, ceramics, and composites. AMSE is composed of various detailed subjects areas centered on the design, processing, and characterization of materials. More specifically, AMSE can be divided into several fields, including : (1) new metallic materials for the development of structural metals with improved properties, (2) ceramic materials for synthesizing, processing, shaping, and sintering ceramic powders (3) enhanced surface engineering of materials through the development of physical or electrochemical processes, (4) composite materials to enhance the functions and structures of materials, (5) nanopowder materials for high-strength nanomaterials, electromagnetics, and energy and biological/environmental applications, and (6) material characterization and assessment for the design and processing of materials and components. Thus, the purpose of education in AMSE lies in the educating specialists with practical abilities through microscopic and macroscopic knowledge of novel materials. Through collaboration with companies and sophisticated course work suck as practical seminars, we intend to cultivate engineers with practical experience to meet needs from the industry.
